Social Media Club is platform to host conversations that explore key issues facing our society as technologies transform the way we connect, communicate, collaborate and relate to each other.
It brings together people who create and consume media and have an interest in seeing the ‘media industry’ evolve for everyone’s benefit – journalists, publishers, communications professionals, artists, amateur media creators, citizen journalists, teachers, students, etc.
Chris Heuer and Kristie Wells started the organization in March 2006.
The first chapter was launched in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA (USA) on August 16, 2006.
Our Core Values
There are four core areas which are most important to us:
- Media Literacy,
- Sharing Lessons Learned,
- Encourage Adoption of Industry Standards, and
- Promote Ethical Behavior.
More importantly, we want to ensure that the world of Social Media does not become an echo chamber of self-reinforcing thoughts, but is instead fueled by diversity of opinions and perspectives.
